Edith and Otto Frank had planned to move to their secret annexe on 16 July 1942 but that plan changed one Sunday morning in July 5 1942 when Margot got a call up notice to move to a concentration camp. Edith and Otto wouldn't let their daughter be taken away so they decided to move to the annexe 10 days earlier then they had planned. Margot and Anne packed a sactchel with their most important belongings. The first thng Anne put in was her diary, the book that made her famous. They put as many clothes as they could on because no Jews in their situation would leave the house with a suitcase. They arrived at the annexe on 6 july 1942.
They would have to share the annexe with another family. The family consisted of Auguste Van Pels, born 29 September, 1900 and Hermann Van Pels, born March 31, 1898. Along with them came their son Peter Van Pels born 8 November, 1926. The Van Pels came to the annexe 13 July 1942.

In November 1942 an eighth individual named fritz pfeffer, born April 30 1889, was chosen by the annexe members to join their little family, leaving behind his darling Charlotta Kaletta. He caused great annoyances during the annexe family's lifetime but he also helped a great deal with dental work as before his time in the annexe he was a dentist.
As soon as they got into the annexe the house members immediately started putting up curtains as it would not end well if they were to be seen. After they hid themselves behind the covered up windows they got started on decorating the place. They got Johan Voskuijl to put up a secret bookcase that acts like a normal door in front of the door that is accessible from the warehouse to the annexe so none of the workers who did not know about the Jews could not find them.
